This is an incredible vintage example! This is the '59 Gibson USA Les Paul Special electric guitar. 24.75" scale. 1 11/16" nut width. Serial #: 910639. Pot code: 134908. 7.6 lbs. The Les Paul Special was made for just one year- only shipping about 1200 altogether. That makes this Gibby an incredibly rare piece. Aside from that, this is just a fantastic Gibson. The lightweight perfectly aged mahogany body/neck makes for incredible resonance. As you know, 50 years ago builders had access to exceptional old wood- so these guitars have that extra something special. Of course, all of this mahogany also creates that exceptional bottom end and midrange response. Add to that the dual P-90 pickups and you've got yourself a tone machine. The tone you 'hear' in your head when you think 'Vintage Gibson with P-90's'- that is the exact rich tone here! The cleans here are incredible- great sparkle on the bridge and big warmth off the neck pickup- all with a very distinct character. Add some gain and this Special really comes alive. The bridge pickup makes for excellent rhythm crunch while the neck pickup has that seemingly endless sustain. This '59 comes equipped with the infamous bumblebee caps, so you know those sweet 'rolled back' tones are right there as well. So good. The neck here is a .88" thick C profile- very comfortable. The 12" fretboard radius enables effortless bends while the deep cutaways and heel-less feel give you full acces to the entire length of the fingerboard. A true player. The look here is gorgeous- cherry finish naturally faded to brown, multi-ply pickguard, bound fingerboard, and beautiful strip tuners. There are several checks(pics) to be expected. The is also a finish 'crack' or chip on the heel- looks to be in the finish only. This Special is fantastic- perfect down to the original solder- a truly great find. The frets are clean- just professionally setup with action of just about 3/32" at the 12th fret low E. included are the non-original Gibson hardshell case in the pics.
