Welcome, you are looking at a great piece. This is the 2013 Sugi Japan Custom Made SH487E Chambered Electric Guitar. 24.75" scale. 1.67" nut width. 7 lbs even.
This Sugi is a work of art- custom made to buyer's spec in 2013 with a price tag of $5300.
Sugi is an impressive company, making their components or having them built to spec for them- nothing here is 'off the shelf'. Suji also uses reclaimed wood up to 500 years old in their custom builds.
This SH487 features a chambered mahogany body and a very impressive figured maple top. This gives you the classic tonewood combo that spawned a million famous guitar tones. The chambering and nylon saddles enable some warm acoustic resonance. The sum total is one of the best sounding electrics you are likely to find.
Plugging this Sugi in, my first thought was 'this feels alive'- the dynamic response is very quick- it really is that good.
Dual Sugi custom humbuckers run the perfect line between 'hot' and 'tone'. Run through a tube amp, this instrument has a huge sound with just the right amount of bite off the bridge position, while the neck has thick sustain while retaining excellent note articulation. Running up the gain, this beauty also felt very at home with hard rock tones.
The 5 way pickup selector gives you access to coil taps in '2' & '4', so all of your cleans are here as well. The tone pot has a wide sweep, so it's very easy to dial in a wide range of tones.
This 487 is a tone machine- totally defies genre.
The mahogany neck is extremely comfortable -.84" deep at the 5th fret with a C profile. Add to that the neck's satin finish and 12" radius on the ebony board and you've got a fine player.
The look, as I've sure you've noticed is just exceptional. The sunburst finish is absolutely stunning with vibrant colors and showing off the highly figured top. The headstock is matching. Multi-ply hand inlaid abalone purfling and multi-ply binding adorn this instrument from head to toe. The finishing touch is the block inlays, chrome hardware, and open geared tuning machines.
This Sugi was handsigned on the back of the headstock, which was a special request from the original owner. Something, I'm told, is extremely rare with Sugi- they generally will not sign instruments.
This Sugi is in exceptional condition- some typical polish swirls- that's it. This SH487E was very well protected.
This auction includes the original hardshell case and COA.
This Sugi is a unique, beautiful, instrument, that assures that you will stand out on whatever stage you walk.
Don't pass this by!
