Vintage 1978 Gibson Les Paul Custom Tobacco Burst Electric Guitar Ace Frehley (?)

$ 4,999.95

Welcome, you are looking at a great piece.
This is the Vintage 1978 Gibson USA Les Paul Custom Tobacco Burst Electric Guitar.
24.75" scale length. 1.69" nut width. 10 lbs 1 oz.
.80"-.97" 1st to 12th fret neck depth.
This is a very interesting guitar- very cool based on the somewhat rarity of a '78 Tobacco Custom alone.
The pickups here create some intrigue- they were labeled, as you can see in pics, 'Les Paul Kiss Ace'.
The labels have fallen off the pickups from age (they were sitting in the routes and will be in a bag in the case) but you can see the ghosting on the backs of the pickups from where they were affixed for decades.
The pickups opened up a whole world of questions as you could imagine.
Unfortunately, Gibson doesn't have specific records for guitars of this period.
Dimarzio, however, was more helpful.
They told us the pickups are late 70's, with the bridge pickup being from the original Dimarzio factory.
So, no way to prove anything at all, just a very cool Custom, with a potentially interesting backstory.
Story aside, this Custom starts off with a mahogany body, lightly figured maple top, and set neck neck.
The heavier weight here results in fantastic focused midrange.
Dual Double Cream 70's Dimarzios grab that natural tone and add in their sought-after high ouput sounds.
The bridge Dual Sound measures at 12.92k ohms, the neck meters are 12.10k ohms.
These pickups are very well matched in output and provide exceptional crunch and sustains.
This is an absolute tone machine.
The neck here has a comfortable oval C profile- .80"-.97" 1st to 12th fret neck depth.
Combine that with the 12" ebony fingerboard radius, and you have a exceptional player.
The look here is classic- Tobacco Burst finish, double bound body, bound fingerboard, bound headstock, TP6 tailpiece, beautiful abalone block inlays, and gold hardware.
This Custom is in good +/- overall condition- there are many marks, to be expected on a 40+ year old guitar as well as what appears to be a clear nail polish run near the control cavity.
The 'Fretless Wonder' era frets here are original and clean- set up with action of 3/32" at the 12th fret low E.
This auction includes the aftermarket 'faux tooled leather' case in pics.
This is your chance to get your hands on a great 1978 Custom example.
We were a Gibson dealer for well over a decade.
Buy with confidence.
Don't pass this by!
