Collings chooses their woods very carefully and that is evident in the tone here.
The light weight of the guitar creates exceptional natural resonance and the mahogany adds in the mids and sweet low end. The Tonepros locking bridge & tailpiece transfer more of the strings energy into the body.
The sum total is just astounding- and that's unplugged.
Plugging in, dual Lollar P90s soak up that natural tone and add in their own famous mids.
These pickups have a fantastic clean tone- from brilliant yet full bridge tones to warm neck sounds.
Add overdrive and these beauties open right up with complex mids. The bridge pickup here has a fat crunch with exceptional sustain. Flipping over to the neck pickup, the sustain is just off the charts- benders will be overjoyed.
The neck here runs the fine line between thin and tone transfer and pulls it off perfectly- oval C/soft V profile.
The look here is absolutely gorgeous- Faded Crimson nitro finish with mahogany grains peeking through, tortoise guard, ivoroid machine heads, and nickel hardware.
This Collings is in excellent overall condition as you can see in pictures- typical small marks from normal use- really nothing to report.
The frets are clean- just professionally set up with action of 3/32" at the 12th fret.
