How many guitars do we really need?
It’s the question that our wives (and us as guitars players) never stop asking! Some would say one for each tuning you play in, other say one for each style of music, and when you’re a gigging musician the minimum is two (one main guitar and one backup). Really the answer is somewhere between one guitar and “one more than you’ve got right now!”
Each player should take into consideration their needs and wants. If you’re trying to thin the herd, be honest and ask yourself, how many of these do I actually play on a weekly basis? And if collecting gear is you thing, what the hell, the more the merrier! So I guess the answer to my question varies from person to person, but for most of us, I’d say the answer as many as you need to get the job done, whether that job is getting through the gig or starting a guitar museum (Even if your wife says otherwise).
