The Hype: Fender American Ultra Series
With 2019 in the books, Fender is putting yet another highlight on their American Ultra Series as we gear up for the Winter NAMM Show out in Anaheim, California. The line will replace the American Elite (which replaced the American Deluxe in 2016- I know it gets confusing.) But, nomenclature aside this revamp of Fender’s staple models has our shop particularly excited.
Does “Made In USA” make a difference anymore?
If we take a look at the guitar market in 2020, it’s easy to see that a player’s options are essentially limitless when trying to choose a new instrument. When making that decision many look at brand, price, feel sound, and a host of other specs. If we could jump back in time to the “golden era” of guitar making, a common thread between major brands like Fender, Martin, Gibson and Gretsch was that all of their guitars were proudly made on U.S. soil. It seems to me after years of working in music retail, that one of the most common questions customers continue to ask when considering a pricey new axe is, “is it made in America?”
Here comes Trouble. Parallel Universe II.
Fender’s 2020 Parallel Universe II Series does not disappoint! The most notable models of the new lineup continue to stir the pot, borrowing Gibson-esque features for their limited line of “What If?” type models. The standouts I’ll be talking about are the two new Trouble Maker Teles, and the Uptown Strat.
How many guitars do we really need?
It’s the question that our wives (and us as guitars players) never stop asking! Some would say one for each tuning you play in, other say one for each style of music, and when you’re a gigging musician the minimum is two (one main guitar and one backup). Really the answer is somewhere between one guitar and “one more than you’ve got right now!”
The Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Amplifier - A Staple Of Rock Guitar
This amp seems to be a staple, whether it’s live venues, rehearsal spaces, or music stores. What leads so many guitar players to the same amplifier? At $799 brand new, with older models often selling from anywhere between $400 and $500, the Hot Rod Deluxe surely sits in an affordable price range.
